Why are Fan Scene’s pages so dark? Is it supposed to look all black like this?

If AFS appears all black on your monitor there is a problem with its calibration. CLICK HERE. Can you clearly see the differences in the shades A-Z? If not you need to calibrate the monitor gamma.

TIPS ON COMMENTING – REPOSTED FROM JAN 28 2007

Whether, you may ponder, ’tis it nobler

To browse…

in the articles, comments and videos of David fan sites?

Or…

To make comments…

connecting & expressing one’s self?

Then, only by participation will you end this mortal coil.

Ok, I’m no Shakespeare, and for sure, to browse, graze or lurk versus commenting on websites isn’t the life & death dilemma Hamlet faced.

Or, maybe, it is that scary…commenting on a blog for the first time has been rated as akin to public speaking. And, we all know that many rank public speaking as more frightening than dying.

Many who visit fan sites and don’t comment, frequently express that they are missing the joy of sharing their thoughts, ideas and feeling and connecting to others. And here at AFS we have thousands of visitors daily! hmmmm…..I’d love to know who you are and from where?

Wanna take the plunge? The waters here are warm and very buoyant. And, you can choose your style of navigation whether it be to dive in and start swimming or dip a toe in at a time or just slip in and float on your back. Join us, come on in and test the waters. No matter your style, it’s all good and everyone is WELCOME.

So, here is a little primer, conversational recipes if you will, for those wishing for a smidgen of “how-to” and/or encouragement:

Recipe #1: Commenting for the 1st Time

“Hi, my name is… <insert screen name.> This is my first time commenting.” Or “Hi, I’ve... <lurked, read, grazed, browsed–choose your verb>… AFS for… <insert amount of time>… and I wanted to just say….”

You can then say one or more of the following:

“I enjoy AFS because …<insert reason.>”

“I am a David fan since... <insert date> and I first saw David perform …<insert performance and describe as you wish.>”

“I really enjoyed this article because… <insert reason.>”

Commenting with: “I… <insert feeling, sentiment, experience, connection or perception of the article>…” is always a great way to express your perspective and opinions and for others to get to know you and dialog with you via the commentary.

Recipe #2- Stating a Different Perspective:

“I am thinking here that I see… <insert topic> differently. I am thinking that …<insert perception and you can go into your thought processes and reasons.>”

You can also ask “What do you think?” or “Does that make sense?” to engage other commenters in discussing various perspectives.

If English is not your primary language, please know that here at AFS we would love to hear your perspective no matter your primary language. Everyone is welcome. We can learn from each other by sharing our comments.

One of the joys of blogging and commenting is, of course, to share like experiences. What a added benefit in this fanjourney it is to see through other’s eyes, walk in other’s shoes which always entails first understanding and then exploring what another commenter(s) think and believe while you share your own.

Of course, stating a different perspective needs to be couched with respect for the individuals who may be on the other end of the continuum on the topic. So, a good rule is to always use the word “I,” avoid the word “you” and also avoid the common inflammatory words, and, voila, you are well on your way to stating your differing opinion in a respectful way that encourages discussion and exploration.

Commenting is no different from talking to your friends and acquaintances. There is the introduction, the first few shared exchanges and then a settling into an easy relationship sharing like and differing perspectives and experiences and all points in between. Let’s take time to get to know each other’s perspectives, experiences and opinions via commentary. Connection to other fans via commenting is an enriching experience not to be missed.
