Quilt to Benefit Rising Star Outreach Inspired By David Archuleta
During the seventh season of American Idol, people across the world came to know and love the beautiful voice and talent of 18 year old vocal artist David Archuleta.
For the past year, Archuleta has traveled across the United States, into Canada, and overseas to Malaysia, Singapore, the UK, and the Philippines sharing his voice and music with his rapidly growing fan base. When not performing on stage, David uses his voice and spirit for another purpose. He works diligently to raise awareness and encourage participation in charities to benefit others. David’s inspirational message and giving spirit, have propelled many into positive action in support of his targeted charities.
The organization “Angels For A Cause,” composed of David Archuleta fans works cooperatively or in teams to achieve designated goals. One of David’s identified charities, RISING STAR OUTREACH (RSO), works to improve the lives of individuals affected with leprosy in India.
Funding is currently being sought to build and furnish a new school for the leprosy-affected children. Fueled by desire for RSO to reach its goal, a team of “Angels For A Cause” members called “Hearts & Hands” have worked to create something very unique and special.
With contributions of supplies, embroidery, and construction efforts from team members nationwide, a “David inspired” quilted throw and pillow have been lovingly created. The two pieces include hand embroidered “fan chosen David Archuleta phrases” and were both autographed by David himself on August 8th, 2009. At this time, he expressed great appreciation for the efforts being made to benefit RSO.
Both items titled “Gifts From The Heart,” will be auctioned and will also include the (soon to be released) David Archuleta Christmas album “CHRISTMAS FROM THE HEART”(currently available by preorder on Amazon.com).
Bids for the items can be placed separately on e-bay.com from October 1st at 12 midnight ET through October 10th with the auction ending on October 10th, 2009 at 12 midnight ET. ALL proceeds to benefit RSO. To learn more about Rising Star Outreach, visit risingstaroutreach.org
Woot woot! David Archuleta received rave reviews of his performance on the ALMA Awards. His performance was nothing short of amazing. The following was posted on Neon Limelight:
There’s a reason David Archuleta was honored for his achievements in music at the 2009 ALMA Awards — he’s freakin’ incredible.
The 18-year-old with a voice that could take down artists twice his age performed on the awards show, which celebrates the best in entertainment by Hispanic artists, singing in complete Spanish. His ballad of choice was “Contigo en la Distancia,” a song made famous in recent years by Christina Aguilera.
If Christina has the ultimate female version, it’s safe to say David owns this song for the guys. His voice was flawless, chill-inducing — nothing short of amazing.

We all eagerly await David Archuleta’s Christmas CD, because we know that having his CD will make Christmas even more enjoyable. We will have his glorious voice to listen to as we trim our trees, wrap our gifts, drive to the mall for Christmas shopping, etc. Wouldn’t it be amazing if we, as fans, took his CD to the top of the charts? What a great way to give back to David some of the pleasure he has given us. What if we made his CD the best selling album of the year, or better yet, the best selling Christmas album of all time? Elvis holds that record with his Christmas album, having sold 14,500,000 copies. Wouldn’t that be an amazing feat? I can just hear David say how “shocked, surprised, humbled”, etc. he is to think that so many people would to pay to hear him sing Christmas songs. Can we pull this off? Sure we can! Never underestimate the power and devotion of Archie fans. If we can give him three teen choice awards when he was up against some serious competition, we can give him a hit record at Christmas! Here are some ideas that I would like to share (some serious, some not)) to make sure that David’s CD is a BIG hit:
1. Want to make your Christmas shopping super easy? Buy David’s CD for everyone you know! Grandma’s, Grandpa’s, parents, nieces, nephews, children, siblings, friends, clergymen, bosses, and anyone else you can think of. Turn those dudes you know into Archu-Dudes! (Nod to Todd). Convert your pastor into a David fan! Get brownie points from your boss! It’s that easy, just go to Amazon.com, order a CD for everyone you know and BOOM, your Christmas shopping is done, hassle free, not to mention the undying gratitude from everyone because you gave them the best Christmas CD ever!
2. Stand outside your local Best Buy, or wherever you buy CD’s, and play David’s CD while the shoppers come and go. You KNOW that anyone walking in is gonna want one.
3. Create a buzz about David’s CD. Go to Wal Mart with a group of friends, stand in the music section next to David’s CD, and talk very loudly about the CD being the best Christmas CD you’ve ever heard!
4. Decorate a David Archuleta Christmas Tree. Use your creativity to come up with David related ornaments. such lettuce, bunnies, microphones, pianos, Utah ornaments, Thai food container ornaments, angels, and you guessed it, LOTS of David’s CD’s. How pretty!

Lisa de Moraes, Washington Post Staff Writer and TV Columnist, was online today answering questions from readers about the departure of Paula Abdul from American Idol. In one of her replies, she refers to David Archuleta as Baby Elmo.
We will take that as a compliment, Ms. de Moraes.
Bethesda, Md.: Why are people so upset about Paula leaving? Everything that comes out of her mouth is absolute drivel. Her walking away is the best thing that could have happened to the franchise.
Lisa de Moraes: Okay, you just answered your own question. We love her because you never know – and often don’t understand — what’s coming out of her mouth. Personally I love live TV and it’s because of people like Paula. No script. No safety net. Remember the time she told Baby Elmo (aka David Archuleta) she thought he was so adorable she wanted to squeeze his head off and hang it from her rear viewer mirror. Honestly, who are they going to get who can top that?

Neon Limelight, the music and entertainment blog, posted a review of David Archuleta’s performance last night in Pittsburgh, PA. The author, Story Gilmore, had this to say about David’s cover of Bubbly:
There are several reasons why we adore David Archuleta. He’s a former American Idol contestant and we are nuts for Idol! He’s always humble and gracious. It’s like the kid doesn’t know he’s awesome. And probably the biggest selling point: he’s talented beyond reason.
He’s done some pretty epic covers in the past and on a recent concert stop, he added to the list with a cover of Colbie Caillat’s sleeper hit single Bubbly. Perfect song choice for Archie and his voice? Buttery good!
Buttery good. We agree, Ms. Gilmore. Great review. Go HERE to see the review.

The Pitsburgh Tribune Review listed David Archuleta’s concert performance tonight as a “Hot Pick” in their list of upcoming events in the city. The reporter had some nice things to say about David, even though she was incorrect in saying that David tried out for American Idol in 2002. Let’s see . . . that would have made him twelve years old at the time, too young to auditon. David did sing for the Idol contestants in a hotel lobby in 2002, however, that certainly wasn’t an audition! Here is the write up from thieir web site:
Music: Archuleta spreads his wings
David Archuleta, the baby-faced runner-up on last year’s “American Idol,” will perform at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Byham Theater, Downtown.
Archuleta, of Utah, won over millions of people with his sentimental voice in the 2008 “American Idol.” He also auditioned during the inaugural season in 2002, and made it to the finals in 2007. In November last year, Archuleta released his self-titled debut album, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Tickets, $35, are available at the Box Office at Theater Square, online or by phone. Details: 412-456-6666 or www.pgharts.org. For groups of 10 or more, call 412-471-6930.

Fan Scene recently had the opportunity to interview photographer Tim Soter regarding his photography session with David Archuleta. Mr. Soter’s clients include Rolling Stone, New York Magazine, Vogue, Spin, and VIBE.
He has kindly given us permission to publish the pictures of David from his blog, and has graciously taken the time to answer a few questions. Check out his web page HERE.
1. David has been referred to by people who meet him as genuine, nice, down to earth, etc. What was your impression of David?
He was a very sincere guy and happy to oblige with the photography that I was doing. Upon getting to the studio early I found that the girls who had been waiting outside got to meet him as he entered the building. They were all “glowing” and swapping stories about how nice he was.
2. One of your pictures is of David coming in a door. He has an expression on his face that I have never seen in any other picture. How did you capture this? What was the mood and what do you think the expression on his face says? (One of my favorite pics of him, by the way.)
The idea to come through the door was actually David’s. The studio likes to take photo of all of the artists that come through, using the door as a backdrop, but David asked, “Do you want me coming through the door?” and just went ahead and did it. It turned out to be the most natural of all the set-ups because it was. As to what his expression is saying I’ll leave that up to the viewer to decide.
3. David thinks he is weird looking and hates to see himself on TV. Considering this, you would think that he would be uncomfortable in front of the camera. However, he seems totally relaxed and comfortable in your pictures. Did you get the impression that he feels this way, or was he relaxed from the beginning?
He seemed comfortable even though there were a lot of people around. I try and get my subjects to relax, usually joking around the whole time. I realize that it’s really not easy having your photo taking and people tend to like a lot of direction. I had only 15 minutes to shoot David and had scouted out four different locations to photograph him. I tend not to take whole lot of photos, instead taking a few in each location so the subject doesn’t get burned out. David was very gracious and patient and I was really happy with the photos I was able to set-up and take in such a short amount of time.
4. Is there anything else you would like to tell Fan Scene?
David was a good guy to shoot, easy going and very polite and cooperative.
In an arcticle for News Blaze, Carolee Walker quotes David Archuleta on mentoring and being a positive influence on young people.
Washington – It doesn’t take much to become a mentor and have a positive influence on a young person, says 2008 American Idol finalist and pop star David Archuleta. “You don’t have to be this great, amazing person to have a really big influence on people’s lives,” Archuleta said.
Archuleta is among several U.S. celebrities, including actors Terrence Howard, Gabrielle Union and Michael Copon, who are supporting Children Uniting Nations (CUN), one of the premier nongovernmental organizations working with at-risk and foster youth, by pledging to recruit mentors and raise awareness of at-risk youth issues, including mentoring.
“It’s important for foster kids to be able to talk to someone, to feel like they belong somewhere and to feel like they can express themselves,” Archuleta said. “A lot of kids – and not just foster kids – feel they aren’t worth that much and that they are not capable of accomplishing things.”

A couple of songs from David Archuleta that were previously not available as downloads are now available on iTunes.
“Works for Me” came as a bonus track on the Wal-mart version of David Archuleta, and “Somebody Out There” was exclusive to those who pre-ordered the album on iTunes.
“Works for Me”, co-written by David with Daniel Beddingfield, is probably one of David’s better songs. Too bad it didn’t make the album.
Meebo.com team member, Robb, posted a blog about AI and David Archuleta. He had some great things to say about David’s success since American Idol.
While all eyes are on the new contestants from this season (plus a new judge), there are plenty of Idol graduates that are topping the charts. Some of these hit-makers include Kelly, Carrie, Daughtry, and of course David Archuleta. Here at Meebo we know first-hand how popular David is – we’ve been featuring his hit video “Crush” and it’s been viewed close to one million times! I think that my younger cousin Sara is responsible for about 10,000 of those views herself.
David not only not has hit records, but he also has his own online board game — Arch Madness. Fans scour the web in search of codes that let them advance on a virtual game board, and at the end they get a chance to win some pretty cool prizes. Jive Records launched the game recently, and they offered to make Meebo one of the websites to host a secret code. With so many David fans around the office, we were thrilled to be a part!
David Archuleta continues to impress everyone he meets, from fans to people in the media. His humbleness in the midst of fame is one of his characteristics that is most often mentioned, along with his incredible talent, in the press. Geoff Kelly, one of the editors for ArtVoice, interviewed David Archuleta before his concert at Club Infinity. His article Dispatch: Conversation with a Boy Wonder, can be found here.
J. Moser of The Morning Call reviewed David Archuleta’s concert in Allentown, PA. In his review, Moser said:
He nailed the signature notes from the opening “Touch My Hand” (the title of which he took literally — handshaking the front row) to the killer closing of Robbie Williams’ “Angels,” and even outdid the big note on the recorded version of his hit “Crush.” He emoted often, but never in a cheesy way, and worked so hard that four songs into the show he was wiping sweat and by the end was breathing hard.

David Archuleta talks with Twist editor Jackie about school dances, American Idol season 8 and the inspiration behind writing ALTNOY.
“Actually I helped write this song and it was my concept, idea,” David said about writing ALTNOY. “So it was a fun work to do, and it was definitely some personal experiences. As long as you keep a good friendship going, even though it’s not like as serious as it used to be, I think things will be okay!”
Vote for David Archuleta in the Top Rated Singer Poll! David has 19% of the vote, while David Cook has 49% of the vote. Once again, it’s the battle of the Davids! You can also vote for “Crush” as your favorite song.

She is working on getting a backstage video interview with David, so stay tuned for updates. She asks readers to “let me know what you are most excited for! Is it his adorable face, his new single “Crush,” his sweet, soulful voice, or the fact that he has shared a stage with Ryan Seacrest.” Looks like she got three out of four right!
British Reporter Ruth Harrison recently reviewed David Archuleta’s self-titled CD for Female First. After listening to David’s album, Ms. Harrison, a fan of heavy metal, admitted that that “David Archuleta is my new ‘guilty pleasure.’” In her review she also states that David Archuleta has a voice that most grown men would kill for and that “each song on this self-titled album seems to be sung right from the deepest chasms of the beautiful boy’s heart.”
In discussing one of her favorite tracks, Ms. Harrison says that “I have also fallen completely head over heels in love with Your Eyes Don’t Lie which oozes a suave attitude throughout the three minutes it blasts out on the office CD player. The whistling in the background and the hypnotic beat and the ‘step down’ style vocals on the chorus get my shoulders snapping and my head bobbing.”
