When season seven runner-up David Archuleta announced last December that he was devoting the next two years of his life to a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, it was presumed there would be no music from the Idol finalist until he returned home in 2014. So it may be a surprise that Archuleta’s latest album debuts on The Billboard 200 this week at No. 28.

Begin. is a 10-song collection of covers and one original, “Broken,” co-written by Archuleta. The remakes include R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts,” Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush’s “Don’t Give Up” and Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors.” Archuleta recorded the album before starting his mission in South America.

From Pam Pike:

BEGIN REVIEW

David Archuleta continues to be one of the most dynamic and versatile recording artist today. His brilliant new album offers a mix of rearranged favorite covers as well as a new song musically penned by David himself. He has given us some mighty impressive stuff here
.
Each time I play this album I enjoy it even more. I’m writing in a state of bliss after listening to these songs. He’s really so good, isn’t he?

His “Be Still My Soul” comes deep from the depths of his spirituality, his voice shines and soars and drives straight to the center of your heart.Go to Pam’s Blog to continue reading: Pam Pike’S BLOG

From AALetta (Ashley)

As I sit here writing this review and listening to BEGIN. once again, I’m still in awe of David’s vocals in this album. Though he only had a few weeks to record it, it seems David really put his all into this album for his fans before leaving on his 2-year mission.

David lends his silky-smooth voice to beautiful covers like “True Colors” by Cindi Lauper, “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera and “Angel” by Sarah McLaughlin.

  1. For the fan dinner, it was other people not at the dinner that told us to save his face in the freezer. Rebekah laid claim to the piece of cake and couldn’t help herself. LOL…..that’s fine though. I’ll do a write up soon and send it to Fanscene to publish. With pics of course.
