This past weekend, Masterclasslady published a post titled, “American Idol Season 5 HaHa Memories: We Made It Through The Rain” and it got me thinking about the group songs from Season 7. From the moment Ryan said, “For 16 year old David Archuleta it’s been an emotional road just getting here” I had committed that spikey-haired kid to memory and made a point of looking for him in the group numbers.

Here’s David in his very first one followed by my all time favorite. Be sure to let me know which group song captured your attention!

Edit: While searching YouTube for more group numbers, I came across this very special moment. I remember wondering to myself if this kid had the emotional strength to make it through the tough Idol experience…

  1. I loved the Shout to the Lord group performance, but the studio version is better than the live one, since David is featured in that one.

Ever since the finale of Season 11 and the group performance with Neil Diamond triggered flashbacks to Season 7, I have been rewatching the Top 5 group performance over and over. It just seemed to be so much fun for all of them. And who wouldn’t want to watch that group sing “Brother Love’s Travelin’ Salvation Show” over and over? D was so close to busting some major moves there.

  2. Oh my gosh, David crying when Alexandrea was voted off sealed the deal for me. I fell in love then and there! I remember my mom and I talking about whether he would be able to handle the show emotionally. Wow, Idol days were stressful ( I mean for us, haha). That idol theme song still makes me break out in a sweat.

  3. ok …this was not the best performance – but I still loved the dorky choreography and David’s stomping around … and the 46 second mark :P
