TV5 signs GMA 7 director for David Archuleta mini-series
‘Great excitement’
From directing some of GMA 7’s highest-rating and most successful shows to starting over with what he describes as a growing network, wouldn’t Alejandre feel the pressure, ratings-wise?
“Ano ang gagawin ko para makatulong (sa ratings)? I will always do my best. I will do what I’ve been doing the last 20 years and hopefully I will have enough strength to do even more,” he said.
As for his first show with TV5, Alejandre said he welcomes “Nandito Ako” with “great excitement.” Besides David, he will also work with two of TV5’s home-grown artists, Eula Caballero and Jasmine Curtis-Smith.
“It’s a very great challenge. It’s a wonderful challenge to do. It’s nice to be able to work with young stars of TV5,” Alejandre shared.
He added, “I think I have great passion for talent development.”
Besides the acting classes David did in Los Angeles, California before his arrival in the Philippines, Alejandre said the 21-year-old “American Idol” finalist will have an acting workshop with Gina Alajar on Sunday, January 15.

I just directed the plug of the mini-series… We just did a scene in a hotel staircase with two girls fighting over him.
YEAH DAVID!!! His older American fans are so proud and happy for David’s decisions. He looks very happy and I am sure the Phiilipinos are delighted to have him in their TV…too bad the American TV never appreciated his talents as much. But everything happens for a reason.

It was a very fun and memorable day! First time to direct an international celebrity and I was able to make him laugh within the first… … 5 minutes of the shoot… Then everything flowed smoothly. Despite the fact that his companion told me that it was his 1st time to… portray a character. Thank you Lord for sense of humor… Thank you Lord for the gift of laughter!

American filmmakers do appreciate David, but he was not ready to do a film, we are told. He was offered a script but turned it down – about a band in which he has a mini-romance and where he can sing some of the songs he’s written. Maybe he’ll be ready some day. We’re doing another movie while we wait.
