North Texas children to benefit from baseball weekend

The Heroes Foundation is a non-profit initiative providing Dallas inner-city youth the opportunity to participate in team baseball, basketball, educational and cultural curriculum, all while building self-confidence. The Heroes programs allow youth to learn the fundamentals of baseball and basketball through clinics, instructional leagues, one-on-one training and tournaments. Heroes also brings sports training and competition to children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities. It is the Heroes focus to empower and embrace those with disabilities so that they might break free of society’s expectations and be accepted in their communities. The Heroes Foundation gives 100 percent of the money raised to direct project costs, funding sustainable athletic programs for Dallas inner-city youth and for the physically and intellectually challenged. We work to raise awareness by finding heroes for them and making heroes of them. For details, go to heroesorganization.org.

Proceeds will also go to The Mike Modano Foundation, dedicated to raising funds to improve the lives of at-risk and under-served children in the Dallas area, specifically children who have been abused, abandoned or neglected. In addition, Modano’s foundation provides funding for organizations whose purpose is to offer education to children and families suffering the devastation of abuse to help break the cycle of abuse. In September 2003, the Mike Modano Infant and Toddler Cottage at Jonathon’s Place opened its doors to help at-risk children who have been removed from their homes by Child Protective Services. I still can’t believe that I didn’t get to go see him in Myrtle Beach when he was only a few hours away from me :( . I’m still holding out hope that he has more shows planned for the last part of the year, so I’ll be able to go.
