Excerpt from the Rising Star Outreach Newsletter, February 2011:

Letter from the President

We have just experienced one of the most amazing weeks, ever, at Rising Star Outreach in India. We were blessed to have a number of incredible people join with us in celebrating World Leprosy Day (January 31). The list included the American Idol sensation, David Archuleta; a judge from So You Think You Can Dance, Stacey Tookey; and Broadway favorite, Shaun Parry. Together they presented an amazing show at the Marriott Courtyard hotel in Chennai. It was sold out, with many others wanting tickets.

This was David’s first trip to India, and his fans were thrilled!

For me, the most rewarding part of the program was watching our Rising Star children’s dance troupe performing along with David, Stacey and Shaun. They were also joined by our children’s choir. People were dumbfounded at their proficiency. In spite of all the stars there, it was the children who stole the show! (Special thanks go to Shaun Parry for his work with the troupe!)

The above three stars also spent the week serving in the leprosy colonies and working with our children. It’s always interesting to watch as even some of the most celebrated people in the world are moved by participating at Rising Star. I think David Archuleta summed it up best when he videoed that this was truly a life-changing experience for him.

More importantly, we work to ensure that participation with Rising Star is also a life-changing experience for every family and every child we work with. Thanks to each of you who help make this transformation for these families possible.

  1. Seeing those beautiful smiles on all those beautiful faces just says it all!!
What a very special moment for David , Lupe, RSO and the wonderful children.
That will be a memory etched in all of their minds and hearts forever, I am sure!
I cannot wait to see the documentary of David’s journey and the progress that has been made at the school and with the people in the colonies. Without David, his fans may not have become aware of this organization. The Pathway of Hope…is an amazing work of art and heart!! :D
