“Something ‘Bout Love” has been out, and honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by it. I thought it was going to be very cheesy with skateboarders, and I thought it was going to have some stereotypical girl throwing herself at David, but I was happy to see that the description was way off from this video. The skateboarding added to the video rather than distracted the audience from the crowd. There was no leading lady at all but instead many couples in relationships. The setting was amazing. I loved the lighting! I even loved how at one point in the video it showed a woman drop something and a stranger helped her pick it up, symbolizing loving your neighbor. Daniel being in the beginning is pretty cool too! I also thought it was realistic how David was always in his own little world. He has mentioned numerous times how he kept to himself at school, and I think if he was at a party he wouldn’t be the center of attention.
So my question to all of you is whether or not you liked the video. If so, what did you like about it, or if not, what did you not like about it? Tell us about it in the comment section! Yay or Nay….

Well, aren’t you brave! ha! Just kidding. After reading other opinions and interpretations, I’ve come to like it more. Having said that, my first impression wasn’t so positive. I still have misgivings, but, I’m happy many fans seem to like it.

Big Yay! Love the song and the recording with David’s great vocals; the video even makes it better.

Yay,,, The video shows the other side of David… an evolution from a cutie adolescent to a serious, mature adult… I love his transformation and the message implied in this video… Love in all aspects:.
The contour of his face and body has perfectly shaped up… Love it:-))))

I like the video. The scenes are beautiful and David looks gorgeous. But somehow I think the video is a little bit boring. It would be much more interesting if there was a plot. And SBL is a fun song, so David should have been more joyful in the video, but in fact, he looks kinda emotional lol. I didn’t really like Declan Whitebloom in the first place so when I first heard he was the director for SBL MV, I was a bit disappointed. However, the vid is not that bad, it’s still good. But it’s just not what I was expecting…. Well, it’s just my opinion!

lol – oh brave one — well here I go!
Yay — a good clean video with a positive message, this is sorely needed today – BIG TIME!
Nay – that message could have been more clearly portrayed, there were too many different scenes that quickly went by so no plot really developed and you did not have a chance to make an emotional connection to any of the characters in the video
David of course was just wonderful.

YAY – David is in the video
YAY – David’s voice
YAY – Great song
YAY – Great message
Don’t think it’s as good as “Crush”, but love it just as much.

Definitely YAY! I like how it’s the most personal one he’s done. And it shows how much he’s matured, but it ends with him smiling, kinda showing that through all that’s happened and even if he has matured, he still hasn’t changed.

It’s very difficult for me to have an objective opinion as I am SO overjoyed at the fact (as Doc so greatly put it) that a ‘good clean video with a positive message’ is now out there for everyone to experience and love! In fact, over 2 million felt it worth their time to watch and enjoy. So the stats are proof – there IS something ’bout love that many feel the need to see!!
GO DAVID!!!
From: A very happy fan!

Yay! I’m glad David didn’t have – as Andrea put it – “a stereotypical girl throwing herself at him,” and I liked how he was sort of a narrator. And ITA about the part where someone drops something! It brings the song out of just a romantic view, and also into a more general one. And, of course, he was hotter than how hot it is outside right now (which, by the way, is now to the point where eggs can be fried on the road).
But though it was cool about how the text was from Joy and all, I didn’t get it. Everything has to have a purpose, and (sorry, David) the only purpose this seemed to serve was to be a sort of inside joke for David (and Joy). They could have easily done away with this part, and even though it made David part of the video, which was good, it didn’t really make much sense. If the purpose was for David to be involved in the scenes, I’d have preferred it if they’d made it more obvious that David was the one painting the heart (I think it was him, anyway).

The text message from Joy to David is also part of Love – the love between friends. It shows Joy’s happiness over David’s success. David has said many times how much he cares for Joy and her family.

I give the video a big YAY! In fact this video has become my favorite of David’s so far. Love the sensitive, concerned, introspective David in the video. I think this is so David……the sensitive observer, the storyteller. His interpretation of the song and the lyrics are wonderful. Love the general feel of the video…. moving forward and just letting go and “letting love”. Gives us glimpses of different aspects of love, which is what David wanted the song to say. It maintains the upbeat, fun aspect as well in addition to the sensitive mood in the video and with that smile at the end……a lovely positive ending that just completes the whole thing for me. Absolutely love this video!

BIG yay of course!
They have mostly explained why so instead I’m gonna ask a question bout what Andrea said, “Daniel being in the beginning is pretty cool too!” I’m just confused. Do you mean Daniel, Archie’s brother? Because I can’t seem to find him in the first part of the MV. lol
gynxie(Quote)
I have to give it a BIG YAY ……I would give it a YAY even without having watched it LOL so I’m not the most objective person here haha!
I can see and understand some of the NAY’s – There are many different scenes but they don’t bother me!
I see a sad David – because love hurts – but then come to mind all the great things LOVE also is ’bout – he finally realize that there is Something ’bout Love that makes it worth while……So I love his interpretation of the song and the wonderful lyrics! Very positive!
GREAT MESSAGE – GO DAVID!! ♥ ツ
Hanne – Denmark(Quote)
Oh…gynxie – Daniel is in the video, in the basketball scene – the smiling guy in black and gray – starting to the left in the scene!!

YAY I LOVE THE VIDEO AND THE SONG . I FEEL DAVID IS SENDING A MESSAGE WE ALL WANT TO BE LOVED BUT IT IS NOT ALWAYS PERFECT BUT DON’T GIVE UP IT IS WORTH WAITING FOR TRUE LOVE..

YAY, I fully enjoyed the video, as soon as it was released for purchase I did so on itunes. It has an upbeat to it for young/old alike to realize that love is there, in all walks of life. Thanks David for always bringing that out to us.

I like it a lot!-and even more after reading Angelica’s interpretive article on The Voice web site. Snow Angelz also has an article on their blog. Seeing the various interpretations helped me appreciate the depth even more. It has over 2 million views now! Yea!

cool video and that david’s brother was in the video too!! this song is really bout a special girl in david’s life.

Sorry, this time I was disappointed. Loved the lighting and confetti. LOVED DAVID, HE WAS AMAZING AS USUAL. But the video itself just seemed to be a jumbled mess that really didn’t connect to the song. David’s fans will always look for the positive and never let him down, but this time I think David’s “people” let him down. And as far as the text blip, it went so fast, does anyone beside David know what it said?

Great analysis Andrea.
I wasn’t a big Crush video fan. I actually liked ALTNOY better and Crush has 21M+ views and ALTNOY close to 3M…so what do I know….ok, ok….I hear the cyber snickering out there….LOL
What I do know is these videos aren’t aimed at impressing me…I’m definitely not the target audience. So one good thing is if I’m not impressed it will probably impress the audience it’s being marketed to.
I’ve watched other music videos and, in general, I don’t get the imagery or message the first view or two…lots are just the music and scenes flashing by and an overall sense of it was art and I felt moved watching it vs. a story line.
So my first view of S’BL left me with an impression of David as front & center, positive and negative emotions emanating from him as he sang the highs and lows about love. And that impression was bout love amongst older teens. I liked the different look and feel of David’s performance in this video.
Yes there has been a lot of deconstruction and discussion of imagery which has been fun to read but I so didn’t get that from the first few views. But if one buys a music video its to watch/listen over and over, right? So eventually whatever the first impression is that motivates to buy would seem to mean that one liked what moved them and then maybe the imagery becomes more meaningful over multiple views – a waking dream, sorta….arm chair video psychology a la kizzi….hahaha…*ahem* again what do I know *snicker, snicker, snicker*
As far as content, I do read a lot about concerns about what youth see and its influence. Having raised 4 kids all I can say is they saw plenty in their pre-teen and teen years that I didn’t even know about until years later. So my sense is the video is about David’s message and the impression he wants to make and that it’s about him and his life experience and its massively fun to watch the video and think in that vein, at least for me, the non-target audience.
And, yes, I would have loved for my own kids when teens to see a plethora of videos of this nature but, ya know, there is just a lot they get exposed to anyway. My own sense is to make sure kids know what’s out there, to guide, and to know they will see stuff when they are on their own and hopefully interpret it in a healthy way.
So, I basically cut both ways in terms of a personal opinion. Would I have bought it if I was a casual music fan, no….it isn’t aimed at my demographic. Do I enjoy watching it for the analysis and imagery? Yep!
Time will tell if it sells to the audience it targets, which isn’t….mumble-mumble-mumble…year old women like me.
Something I’m pondering here is if David isn’t creating his own niche…as in cutting through some solid “sacred cows” of what has to be done in the music industry, in his age group, to be successful. I respect immensely his message that this is about him, its real.
Looks like he is taking his best shot with the opportunity he has and the circumstances that opportunity has presented itself in. Mad, mad, mad respect for the guts, the courage, the integrity and internal mental fortitude that takes. And on the world stage!!!!!

Yay for me!!!
David Always deliver!!!
Another great song for him just wish that it went straight to Billboard No1. But nowadays, people are so much into what’s not real and pretencious…David is the toal Opposite! He is just true to himself and honest!!
