The theme this week 2 years ago on American Idol was “Songs by Artists from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.” Each of the 4 remaining contestants was asked to sing 2 songs. David Archuleta performed Ben E. King’s “Stand by Me” and Elvis Presley’s “Love Me Tender.”

After the two songs, Simon Cowell said, “David, you didn’t beat the competition tonight. You CRUSHED the competition tonight.”
