Maybe “Today” will have a theme much like Kris Allen’s “Live Like We’re Dying”. If we are only given “today” what would we do differently…how would we live that last day, who would we call, and what would be our last words to those we love? The chorus could say something like, “Today will be the day I will do those things I’ve always known I should do but didn’t do, Today will be that day”…or something like that. The bridge of the song could be that crucial moment of transformation where the decision is made to do all those things because today just might be the last day we get.
I think a song like this needs that moment of transformation so that the listener doesn’t just rock out to David singing a nice pop song but rather is presented with a choice to live life just a little bit better because “Today” may be all we have. I think it would be a good message for me to hear…again…and again…and again.
