I was just looking at GenGen’s brilliant pictures of David from his Christmas From the Heart Tour and reading how she is able to capture such candid and genuine photos.   She just gets herself in the zone, in the moment, and visualizes in her head what he is feeling and doing…master photographers do that to capture the essence of their subjects…cool, eh?

Go Here to view more of GenGen’s pictures (need to scroll down)

And, like most of you, no doubt, I found myself grinning from ear to ear when looking at these latest photos from GenGen.  In fact a few people around me had to see what had me sporting such an absurdly huge and long-lasting grin…and, then they ended up grinning from ear to ear with me.  Good stuff, that!

And that got me thinking about smiles.  (OK, so if you are thinking…here comes the nerdy geeky stuff…you’d be absolutely right.  I told Todd once I wrote like an analytical nerdy geek with a dash of touchy-feely. He…ahem…said I could write anyway.)

As we all well know, a smile is truly such a potent physical force and a mighty emotional trigger. It is one of the most powerful forms of communication.  AND, David’s smile is a rare quantum force that is the gift the keeps on giving to the recipient whether one views the smile in pictures, on videos, or, for the fortunate few, in person.

It’s hard not to feel good when one hears David sing or sees photos of him singing.  Indeed, the medium hardly matters—it can transport us, in the time it takes a hummingbird to flap its wing, from present concerns to an intoxicating flood of sweet feelings or happy memories.

David’s music has the power to grab us forever, whether hearing it on the radio, in the mall, at a restaurant, on our iPod or even more amazing, by just seeing pictures of David singing with his trademark GIGAWATT smile.

Over time, we have built up relationships with David’s songs.  They have become friends and confidants, sources of hope and comfort and joy. Oh, yes, Mr. Bubbly Archuleta, they do make us smile!

So is there a secret to transforming art into joy?

According to University of Alabama Art and Art History Professor, Gary Chapman:  “I think the most important element to happiness in art is the cathartic process for the artist. If the artist has done that really well, then it also makes other people happy. That’s the magic of art.”

Thank you for bringing us that magic, David.

KIZZZZZIIIIIII! WELCOME BACK :) thank you so much for this wonderful article
    - I feel my nose a crinkling, toes a wiggling, face giggling ………….

“I told Todd once I wrote like an analytical nerdy geek with a dash of touchy-feely. He…ahem…said I could write anyway”

Ditto that! Me thinks you can write – and who can’t love an analytical nerdy geek with a dash of touchy-feely — my favorite kind of person.

Now off to check out more of Gengen’s photos – yes, captures the essence of the subject indeed – and then I feel the need to youtube some Cole Porter (and then I will get back to David Archuleta’ing)  (Quote)

  7. Thanks for the article, Kizzi.

Like daizdfan, I often find myself smiling after reading a tweet from David or watching one of his video blogs. I’m not always sure exactly why these things make me smile so much, but I do think it’s a good thing! :)   (Quote)

I think it’s impossible not to smile when you see David’s picture, read his blogs, hear his music, etc.! It reminds me of the feeling you get from the song “Smile” by Uncle Kracker. :)   (Quote)

  9. Judith says:

The word for smile in Spanish is SONRISA…which always sounds like sunrise to me….and David’s sonrisa is like a beautiful sunrise..that starts our day off just right…that is if you happen to be looking at a photo of David every morning…and well…who doesn’t!!??? ;-)   (Quote)
