  1. and so it goes.

    ohmyheavens!!!!!!

    and

    in this moment.

  3. I have to agree with Janey…And So It Goes! My personal favorite is Smokey Mountain Memories! :)

  4. To me it would have to be “IN THIS MOMENT”.

I know he killed “DON’T LET THE SUN GO DOWN ON ME”, maybe because the song itself is a bit difficult to sing that the second performance did not get the proper credit it deserved.

IN THIS MOMENT was different than the other two songs – David had a lot to say with this song. He had determination, he had passion and the way he sang it was just AWESOME!!

  5. I really liked Love Me Tender. He was amazing on that one. So simple and true.

  6. Four of the five above songs were my favorites from David’s Idol run. I would say “And So it Goes” probably got less kudos from fans as well as Randy and Simon, but as Paula said, “It was a stunning performance” — which it was. All of the above songs were great; my sentimental favorite — “Smokey Mountain Memories” — there was so much passion and love in this performance and it was perfect.

  7. Janey and I are two peas in a pod!

And So it Goes — hands down! Very few singers can start off and hold it singing
a cappella like that and ironically it is also difficult to transition from a cappella to the instrumentals coming in (though I would have much preferred the ENTIRE song being done a cappella)

Runner up for favorite under appreciated song – In this Moment. It was and still is the only time I enjoyed hearing one of the “finale” songs. Not just enjoy it – but able to listen to the lyrics, and be able to recall the melody afterwards. I wanted to hear it again. Thank goodness for youtube!

  8. ArchuletaFanScene – am I to assume Longer Than — is your favorite?

I would have to say In this Moment. Honestly it made me feel what he was feeling in the Finale. I still cry watching it!

No, lol. I don’t like that song but David sang it well. I just used that one as an example ’cause I didn’t think anyone would pick it, lol. :P

  11. The other uderrated David song is “WITH YOU”. The ending of “WITH YOU” was AWESOME!! I can’t listen to the original artist now because of David. Sorry but I DO NOT want to mention his name.

  13. Ditto, China80, “With You” was def. underrated … loved it then and now, desp. his rocky start. And, looking back, it gave us a sneak peek of the pop sound of his debut CD.

  14. David sang Love Me Tender on my birthday! I unfortunately had to miss Idol that night, but as soon as I got home, I turned on the tv and it was a close up of David’s face singing Love Me Tender! Ahhh! haha.

as for underrated? they were all amazing, so i have no idea how to even begin. :)

  15. Good answer Becca!

  16. I’m a little late to the discussion, but I’ve always been surprised that “And so it Goes” did not get more appreciation on “American Idol.” That was one of my favorite AI performances by David, and I think that he did a wonderful job with it.

About “Longer:” I thought that that was an interesting song for the producers to choose for David, especially considering some of the comments he’d been getting, but, once I re-watched the video, I felt that David really did deliver a lovely vocal performance.

  17. Sorry I’m so late to reply… just now catching up on a busy week’s worth of fanscene posts haha :)

I vote for In This Moment… I remember tearing up while watching him perform this song, feeling like he poured his heart out on the stage, thinking it was his perfect winning song, humming it all day long the next day, looking forward to it being overplayed on the radio for the next few months… and then sobbing my eyes out while re-watching it on my DVR over and over and over again, for weeks, and wondering why in the world it wasn’t going to be the winning song… oh well :)

    As far as his vocals go for In This Moment… this song has it all… vibrato 1:01, power-house 1:08, lower register 1:20, mini-growl 1:36, falsetto 1:43, emotional-crackling 1:48, soul-sound 1:56, diva-whine 2:02, belting 2:14, and holding that final long note 2:19-2:28 GAH!!!

    I still get teary-eyed <3

    Love,
    Earth
