FAN SCENE IS NOW OPEN! FAN SCENE IS NOW OPEN!
OK – anyone wondering what AFD was doing while Fan Scene was under reconstruction? You know because ——> over there is my usual state of being.
I was really struggling with some serious David Archuleta Fan Scene withdrawals.
David would tweet about what he had to eat – and I would start googling items for one of my food related posts — but then remember – what, wait a minute – no Fan Scene ……… whaaaaaaaaaaaa. SusanM or China would send me a great article on David and I would hurry to the “back room” to put it up and remember – what, wait a minute – no Fan Scene ……….whaaaaaaaaaaaa.
My heart would start pounding, I would break out in a cold sweat, a sense of doom and gloom would come over me. I seriously needed some Fan Scene “CQ” patches — but they don’t make those!
I had the David Archuleta Fan Scene blues in a bad way …I am talking bbbbbbbbbad.
Then I found out about this place for internet addiction called reStart! It only cost $14,000! What a bargain.
reStart is the first inpatient rehab clinic in the US and recently opened up for internet addiction in the state of Washington (ironically awfully close to the Microsoft headquarters). Now internet addiction is actually some very serious stuff and an increasing problem – so I don’t mean to make light of it – but I thought it would be interesting to look at some of the things that are being offered and see how it relates to all of us with Obsessive David Disorder.
It all comes down to dopamine in our neuro-circuitry — but doesn’t it always? So what is dopamine? It is one of the neurotransmitters playing a major role in addiction – including my AFS ODD.
As a chemical messenger, dopamine is similar to adrenaline. Dopamine affects brain processes that control movement, emotional response, and ability to experience pleasure and pain. I prefer the pleasure over pain by the way, thank you.
From an article on Slate.com “The Powerful and Mysterious Brain Circuitry that Makes us Love Google, Twitter, and Texting” :
Berridge has proposed that in some addictions the brain becomes sensitized to the wanting cycle of a particular reward. So addicts become obsessively driven to seek the reward, even as the reward itself becomes progressively less rewarding once obtained. “The dopamine system does not have satiety built into it,” Berridge explains. “And under certain conditions it can lead us to irrational wants, excessive wants we’d be better off without.” So we find ourselves letting one Google search lead to another, while often feeling the information is not vital and knowing we should stop. “As long as you sit there, the consumption renews the appetite,” he explains.
Actually all our electronic communication devices—e-mail, Facebook feeds, texts, Twitter—are feeding the same drive as our searches. Since we’re restless, easily bored creatures, our gadgets give us in abundance qualities the seeking/wanting system finds particularly exciting. Novelty is one. Panksepp says the dopamine system is activated by finding something unexpected or by the anticipation of something new. If the rewards come unpredictably—as e-mail, texts, updates do—we get even more carried away
More carried away ????? well that sounds like me. Maybe it sounds a little bit like you too. Well I do not have 14 G’s – nor the time for the 45 day stay – but I am working on some balance in my life and I hope you do too. Soooooo, while we want you to visit Fan Scene – like DAILY, maybe twice, thrice times a day
— for all your David Archuleta news
but until they come out with those Fan Scene CQ patches — do try to go out and smell the roses, tip toe through the tulips, dance amongst the daisies — soak up the sun and build up your Vitamin D levels – and stimulate your pineal gland and increase your serotonin levels – so you don’t need that dopamine high.
AFD will still be surfing the net
and twittering away
and texting
and emailing
and posting on AFS
and
and
and
– but I am going to look like this from now on – yes, it can happen!

Thanks Judith for informing about the internet addiction place
was there some ulterior motive there with that ?????

Bahahahahahahha!!!! Too funny!! OH, and I did the same thing a few times.. Some David news would break and I’d say “oh I have to post that!” and then I’d get all bummed out because AFS was down. heh.
Hmmm.. maybe our brains make their own unique chemical. Archumine? Or Dopaleta maybe?
debbie(Quote)
LOL Debbie — Archumine and Dopaleta! Maybe I should add that to the post!
archiefandoc(Quote)
Archumine and Dopaleta. LOL! Balance. Ah yes, balance is a good thing. How to balance twitter, email, and fansites.

I am working on balance myself. It’s a very “zen” approach which requires no medications such as “Trynoarchatol.” Judith would approve. Blissful computing my friends.
archuletafanscene(Quote)
Yes AFS – Judith would approve! LOL – Trynoarchatol. hmmmmmm all of this giving me another idea for a post

Notice how we now also have a “reply” button on each comment.

Once you figure out that one Daizdfan – let me know

What a fun article, AFD! You are right, though — balance is important. We need to step away from the computer to make time for other interests and activities. Have fun computing out in that field of daisies!

Oh me, oh my, I’m just glad that I don’t need internet intervention! HA – I’m in control; if at times somewhat spasmodically… I do not spend countless hours flipping from fansite to fansite; love that you can have many tabs open on one internet connection… My day does not start out with all things Archuleta: I have my cup of coffee ready first… I have a life outside of my home office; that I see a few times a day when I have to eat to sustain my strength…
What a fun article. I have lurked for a long time, but just needed to say that I enjoy this site. Thanks!

AFD…I have had Major withdrawal…. not having your articles to read! You and many other David fans have taken multi-tasking to another level. I see it as an Olympic sport in perhaps 2012? Until the medal ceremony let me just say it now….You and AFS are pure Gold!
See you in the field of daisies!
Judith(Quote)
Oh Man! The timing was good for me since it was a busy week, otherwise I would have been pulling the hair out of my head(umm, now that would not have been a good thing!)
marc(Quote)
LOL Marc! Fan Scene to the rescue — or is that Orlando to the rescue in his ODD-bulance? you gotta keep all the hair you can!
archiefandoc(Quote)
Thanks Judith – I think if not the Olympics than maybe Archuleta’ing can be in the X-Games as an extreme sport
archiefandoc(Quote)
Oh, Doc. You are an ODDer after my own heart. Only for David would I follow AFS over to ArchuletaFanScene Yahoo Group, set up a new e-mail account (do you know how many pieces of paper I have at my computer desk with a sundry of website addresses and passwords?
Oh, yeah, of course you do. Be sure to add that to the official ODD list), and post each exciting David article I came across. So glad AFS is back. I really appreciate its ODD. And I really appreciate Todd for having to deal with the frustrations of the site upgrade. I reeeeealy do! Thanks Todd.
