Three Songs from Christmas From The Heart to be Released to Radio?

From Rince25:
Radio Sampler:
1. Have Yourself A merry Little Christmas
2. Joy To The World
3. Melodies of Christmas

The tracklisting of the CD sampler sent to radio.

These are the tracks Jive is encouraging radio to play.

I’m not sure who Rince25 is, but this info came from him/her at Idol Forums. So maybe it should be filed under RUMOR for now, just in case?

Anyway, just curious as to how you all feel about these choices for radio play. I love “Joy to the World”.. it’s very nicely arranged and David’s voice sounds fantastic. I wish the song didn’t end so quickly though.. you can really hear David “getting into it” towards the end while the sound is fading away. “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” is lovely as well. It should get a decent amount of radio play I would think. “Melodies of Christmas” is probably a smart choice because it’s an original song, and I do like it, but I would’ve LOVED to hear “Pat A Pan” on the radio instead. I just think “Pat A Pan” is so funky, unique and contemporary sounding… it’s completely addicting.

What do you think of these choices by Jive? Yea or Nay?

  1. I love the choices! Very radio friendly songs although I would love to hear Pat-a-pan on the radio :( . This is good though at least Jive is encouraging it; Well only if its true.

  2. LOL! Exactly Diana! Let’s hope that it is true ;)

  3. I’ve been rolling this around in my head all night. Oh the things that stress me .. haha.

I’m not disappointed in the choices, IF in fact these are the choices.

In order of “preference” .. JTTW and MOC are in a dead heat. As much as HYAMLC is popular, I personally am not a huge fan of it, but I’m spoiled, and can’t help myself, I just want to hear David, but I’m not negative about it. It’s a splendid song..my ears are just keenly aware of the beauty and tone of David’s vocals.. and want nothing to spoil that.

JTTW .. because the arrangement is GREAT… and David does SUCH a good job on this, he makes it sound new… and that’s a pretty tough job with a classic as old as this one. I think it WOULD do REALLY well.

However on the flipside .. MOC .. holy moly I love that little diddy. It’s SO catchy.. and it’s easily hum worthy throughout the season. AND it’s a David original, and I so want him to be recognized for his songwriting endeavors.. it’s important to him.. thereby.. it’s important to me.. and I DO honestly LOVE it.. everything about it, the melody, the backtracks, the vocals, the toe tapping beat.

    AHHH .. tough choice..

  4. For radio listening, I think those 3 songs are great. David’s whole album is magnificent. It is hard to pick only a few. One song in particular literally took my breath away. It was “Ava Maria”. There are no words to express this most beautiful rendition. David truly is a blessing from God! I thank the Lord for allowing David to entertain the world with his superb musical talent. He surely DOES have the voice of an angel!! I’m with the rest of you in hoping that it is true!!

  5. And yet my curiousity continues .. I don’t KNOW the answer to this, but if anyone DOES.. I’d LOVE to know how it works.

When deciding what to “release” for radio play, do they release the same songs for all the stations?

For example.. MOC.. could spin well on a Pop station like Z100 .. but what about a radio station that plays adult contempary music, would they consider sending Ave Maria or O Holy Night to those stations? or a Jazz/Blues station.. would they consider I’ll Be Home For Christmas.. cause personally I can hear the jazz undertone.. and I just love it…one of my favorites.. cause the arrangement is clearly jazz driven.. and David adds the smokey quality to it.. gosh it’s just a winner.

I’m just thinking out loud .. can you tell how much I’ve analyzed CFTH yet? LOL … sorry ;)

  6. “Joy to the World” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” are the top two songs on his album with the greatest number of downloads according to iTunes’ popularity graph. “Melodies of Christmas” is the only original song created for the album. There were a few songs that fared better but most of them are probably too religious for radio. So I think it is a good selection of samplers. BTW, I love Pat-A-Pan too, but it did not do as well in the iTunes downloads as some others.

  7. BTW, there’s no rule that radio has to choose just 1 song from this sampler of 3 songs, is there? I would love to hear all 3 of these songs on the radio. Actually, I would love to hear all of his songs on the radio.

  8. yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!! David is finally going to be on the radio!!!!! now jive has finally started kicking. the 3 songs are great though my fav’s are Pat-A-Pan and Riu Riu Chiu

  9. I’m with you AJ .. my # 1 favorite is RRC ~ this CD is absolute brilliance with the care and attention to detail. It’s got a great flow, lots of diversity. Great job Team David.

  10. Dawn, I wondered that as well. I think HYAMLC would do fantastic on Adult Contemporary stations and yes MOC would do well on Z100 and other top 40 type stations. I wish I knew how that works. I have several “favorites” on the album, including Ave Maria, but in terms of the songs chosen for radio play, I think these are three smart bets. Oh and HYAMLC is beautiful, but I agree with you about David spoiling us.. I kind of wish I could “skip” through Charice’s part to get back to David.. ;)

  11. debbie .. and as I continue to wonder about it, I wonder if La Mega would pick up Riu Riu Chiu? But we don’t really know how these things work .. and “skip” through would be a great feature.. we ARE spoiled.. he could hum for 3:34.. I’m good .. hehe.

  12. I hope it’s not just a rumor. I would like to request to the radios those three songs. Actually my fave one is “Ave Maria”, but MOC is very catchy. Pat a Pan I love that too.

  13. yea for all three of those! I think they’re smart choices, I only wish Pat a Pan would’ve been on there. It would be a GREAT radio song!

  14. Hey Lisa and David Fans…looking forward to David’s Christmas Concert in 3 weeks! I am excited to see some of you!!! Thanks for your dedication to our buddy David!!!

Hey I “pranked” a friend and wanted to share my goofiness with you…I know I need to grow up :) :) :)

    Happy Holidays!!!

ps…I really really wanted to “prank” my neighbor kid (you know him), but couldn’t bare the thought…even though I got him good last Halloween :)

  15. Go Big “D”… :) :) :)

  16. Perfect choices for radio at Christmas. “Have Yourself…” has been a favorite for years, and David (and Charise) put a great vibe on it and make it a very pleasant listening experience; “Melodies….” is so catchy and fun, yet keeps the just real meaning of Christmas in the forefront; “Joy to the World” is superb!!! It’s never really been a great Christmas favorite of mine through the years, but David’s interpretation of this wonderful arrangement is truly a work of art. I played it over and over when I first heard it, and it’s a favorite on the album. I would agree “Pat-a-Pan” is very radio friendly and I’m sure will get some play.

There are no songs on the album that I would skip when listening, but for the radio, these four stand out.

  17. Okay Brett.. that was HILARIOUS!!!!
