David ArchuletaSo, I was able to attend the Manchester, NH concert and VIP last Thursday. I just have to say that it was a gorgeous day weather wise and in every other “–wise” too.

First I met up with some of the SnowAngelz (from the Canadian Fan Site) at the Boston Airport and we drove to Manchester. The autumn countryside was in its full glory as we caught up with each other from last we met in December 2008 at a Jingle Jam in Albany, NY.

The VIP was really a full blown Archie Fan Party and although we waited around 2 hours it seemed like 2 minutes as we caught up with each other or were meeting each other for the first time. We were taken into the arena and heard David rehearse two songs and he told us about hurting his back on the tread mill—he thought he stomped his feet too hard when running—he had an ice pack on his back and said he had just been to the physical therapist.

David answered questions, one of which was about his upcoming book and how he was working with a biographer who was asking him to go back and think deeper about his experiences and how he felt. David said it was working and he was uber enthused about the book.

A line then formed for pictures and David was gracious and smiling throughout the photo session. It was particularly fun for me to watch the fans interact with David and the smiles and excitement for all the fans from 8 to 80 as they took their turn talking to David and having their photo made.

We then went into the arena and took our seats. The concert was only 30 minutes away. The arena filled quickly and then the heart beat and David was on with “Touch My Hand.”

During TMH David made a beeline for one of the VIP attendees who has been his fan since Star Search days and who was helping everyone in the VIP answer the David Trivia Contest questions. He touched her hand so sweetly and gently. The expression on his face when he touched her hand was priceless and her reaction was equally so.

His voice was rich and lush and he sang each song with a new edge and changed up the phrasing “a la David style.” He brought incredible energy to his performances, as always, but you could tell he was checking himself a little to protect his back. To me it appeared that he was happy to be on stage again and that his command of the stage and song was at a new performance magnitude.

After David’s set, I met with 14 other fans that I have gotten to know over the last 21 months and we played his “Christmas From The Heart” album as we snacked and talked until almost midnight. I have to say that getting to celebrate David’s artistry with other fan’s at the VIP and after the concert was quite sweet AND, if you will, the cherry on top of the David Archuleta Concert Sundae.
