Do you all remember Larissa’s story of winning the Utah Steakhouse dinner with David Archuleta– how he was talking with his hands — waving his arms around, all the while he has a steak knife in his hand. Good thing he was sitting with his parents who must have learned by now when to duck.
Well people of North Carolina — you have been warned!
David Archuleta is coming to be a Samurai Celebrity Chef on May 27th and maybe he is bringing his very own Ginsu knives – you know those knives tauted as the sharpest on the market!
– so watch out for those waving, talking hands!
Hmmmm, what is he going to cook up — Pizza? he loves Pizza, Chicken – he loves chicken, or will Kendra be around — then it is vegetarian dumplings. Maybe he will keep it simple and whip up some Bunches of oats of honey — or is that Honey Bunches of Oats.
I’ll take some teriyaki chicken and steak with some green onions and broccoli (AFD’s special request) on a bed of brown rice

Now that we have the fun stuff out of the way — exactly what is it that David and the other celebrities (local doctors! those lucky lucky doctors in North Carolina) and radio personalities doing all of this for in the first place: Murphy’s Kids. NOT the punk rock band — but a charity dedicated to helping the people of Appalachia – including Scholarships to Appalachian State.

Since coming to the Triad in January of 1992, we have worked with a lot of great national organizations helping deserving children with chronic or life-threatening illness. With your help, we donated tens of thousands of dollars to great organizations like Make-A-Wish.
But 7 years ago, we had the idea to start our own 501 (c) charity that catered to local children and families in need. That year, Murphy’s Kids was born.
Since 2001, Murphy’s Kids has raised over a half million dollars for local children and their families, as well as local organizations.
The money is raised from our great events, including Annual Murphy’s Kids Klassic Golf Tournament, the Celebrity Samurai Cookoff, Tri-cows Kids Triathlon, sales of our Best Of Murphy CD’s, Auctions and from donations from generous 1075 KZL listeners across the Triad.

Oh yeah, I would have David make me a sashimi platter , yellow tail, salmon and tuna, with plenty of wasabe! (he’d probably go, UGH!) And tempura veggies for something healthy! And teriyake steak, uh huh!

Great post AFD…very clever!! And thank you so much for the link to Murphy’s Kids…I had never heard of this organization and it is a great group. I just read some of the things they have paid for…everything from funerals to guide dogs for autistic children…so congrats to the winners…dinner with David and supporting a terrific charity!!
