From Denmark to Oxford to meet David Archuleta

by Hanne

Four excited Danes left Danish ground on May 5th with a mission to “meet and greet” with David Archuleta at his concert in Oxford with McFly.

Everything was punctually planned – we arrived Tuesday night at our hotel on George Street right next to the bus station where we arrived, and also next to Oxford New Theatre where David was going to perform the next day – EXCITING!!

On the very day we first got to search the area around the New Theatre – and we managed after some search to “stumble” across the stage door at the back of the surrounding buildings. That was a very important find!

After that we did a little sightseeing in Oxford but finally went back to our hotel to get a nap before the BIG EVENT!

We arrived at the venue in good time, got our tickets and started looking for familiar faces like Jeff’s – because we wanted to be sure that David and his band got the gifts we brought with us from Denmark – it would be too embarrassing to bring them back. But we had no luck in finding anybody that we “knew”.

So we decided we’d better find our seats, and they were great. Three of us were sitting in the circle – from where the view was GREAT because it was right above the stage. I had a seat on row 6 which was pretty close to the stage – YAY – how great – and what a view!!!

The show was FANTASTIC – the sound was terrible (too loud which distorted the sound) but it didn’t matter because David sang amazingly. We couldn’t believe we finally made it!!!! Wow it was so BIG for us and I had to stand up through all his songs even though some behind me didn’t think that was such a great idea (they might be McFly fans since they didn’t stand up). We thought the crowd was a little slow – but then Zero gravity suddenly woke everybody up and he finally got the response he deserved!!! And before I noticed, he sang Crush………and it was all over, before it even started – at least that’s how it felt!

After David’s show there was half an hour break before McFly would hit the stage. We had agreed on meeting outside during the break to decide what to do next! We were not sure how, when and where David eventually would appear if he decided to come out to say hi to his fans. So we split up – Tina and Maria headed for the back stage and I took guard at the front entrance.

And I didn’t have to wait for long because suddenly Maria stood waving at me from the street corner further down – meaning something was going on back stage maybe???? And something was going on! There were about 15 people standing around the stage door where all the band’s gear were being loaded in the “tour van” and they told me that Jeff just had gone inside to get David for us – YAY!!!

We were so excited when David finally came out! He told us he was so tired – didn’t have time for a nap like he used to and maybe the late nights and early mornings were getting to him. He looked fine though and he took his time talking to everybody and taking pictures with us all – he was the sweetest sweetheart ever!!!. We heard about David’s Danish friend and Jeff told about their Danish relatives and even Kendra had some Danish connections! Later the band came out and they were sooooo sweet and funny and patiently took all the pictures with us that we wanted. We even managed to get Eli to speak some Danish “rødgrød med fløde” a sentence that is very hard to pronounce if you’re NOT Danish – but he actually did pretty well haha! And finally we could give them our gifts – whew – so lucky we didn’t have to bring them back to Denmark. The only thing we got to bring back was the memory of the sweetest angel ever, his very accommodating band and of course Jeff who was so kind to us!! What a memorable and wonderful trip we had – and I really can’t wait to do it again!!

Next time it will be Florida – visiting my best friend Sandra – going to three concerts!! I think the summer of 2009 will be my best summer ever!
