The Fan Scene Fanzine

Dear Fan Scene,

We thought we had a great idea starting the Arch Angel A-List. It was meant to showcase those fans who follow David Archuleta on Tour and we hoped it would be a way for them to network and maybe save some money on hotel bills, etc. Judging by the comments we received, our hearts were in the right place but our heads were on vacation! We are grateful for the flood of emails that came in within minutes of posting the A-List page. We were asked to re-think the A-List but all the messages and suggestions were positively bursting with enthusiastic, heartfelt encouragement from our readers. Our original site on MySpace was/is called David Archuleta FanShare. We started Fan Scene as a sister site for those fans who, for whatever reason, couldn’t access MySpace. It was our original intention to showcase David’s most devoted fans, hence the name Fan Scene. We got a lot of fans writing in with their photos and stories when David was on the Idol Tour, but after that there wasn’t much coming in. Fans started sending their content to the larger fan sites that rose up while we were promoting David on MySpace, and I think that’s when we lost our focus: As ridiculous as it may sound, the fact remains that running a fan site can get competitive. There’s not much point in parroting what another site has already posted, but if you don’t provide any content, there’s no reason for your readers to come back. It’s time for us to get back to our roots. We want AFS to be what our tagline asserts: Positively David.

We’ve been trying so hard to find our niche amongst the fansites we lost the vision of what made our site unique and special in the first place. YOU!

  3. The difference between Fan Scene and other sites is the respect they have for David and the respect in which they post things. That is what keeps me coming here time and time again. You go to other sites and all they talk about is his lips, his muscles, and how he looks, well you know what I mean. I love Fan Scene for respecting him and supporting him for who he is.

  4. Mind you, they might not be the first in posting something from time to time or the latest news. But that don’t matter to me. What matters is that they support him for who he is and what he stands for. With respect and compassion. :)

  6. oh my gosh i know! this site is my favorite because they only say stuff about davids music and what he does. they never talk about hes so hot and things like that. i hate that. the stories they post are at least interesting. some sites will post if david is seen eating a piece of gum or something. i’ve even sent tips about a david story to several sites and this was the only site to even write me back and say thanks. even the comments on here are nice no warnings or thud

  7. I come to Fan Scene for many of the reasons stated above. The comment about some sites creating a post if David is seen eating a piece of gum made me chuckle. That is so true. Not only will that be posted, there will be a paragraph of commentary about it followed by legions of random comments. The whole “thud” business grates on my nerves too, you have no idea.

  10. Hi AFS! I’m excited to see what the Fanzine is all about. I can completely understand the difficulties in trying to ‘compete’ in the world of David Archuleta fan sites. It just seems so silly, we’re talking about DAVID after all, a very non-competitive person. Your hearts are in the right place!

  11. I love coming to this site for most of the reasons mentioned above. This site brings a different energy to what is reported. Everthing that is put here shows nothing but respect towards an amazing person and artist. I do get tired of some sites who talked endlessly about David’s many attributes but those sites, I feel, tend to be geared more towards a younger audience so they exist because of those reasons. This site is not geared toward one specific audience but to ALL fans period. If is a very informative site. Even if some information has been already reported, you still get a different perspective with how the information is delivered.

    This site is based on integrity and that is why I will always coming here…I just need to be better about leaving a comment….my new years resolution..comment more.

  13. Hey AFS,

    I love you guys! Seriously…you respect David, and he deserves it. I like your idea of focusing on the fans. I have heard some neat stories of how people have been effected by David, most of them about how David causes them to be better people…nicer, friendlier, going back to church, etc. I think it’s appropriate to highlight them and David in a respectful manner. I know I can come here to find that, and so I want you to know at AFS you have my full support! Forget being competitive…heck, David’s purpose in this world is too important to interject ourselves into the mix. Plus, it goes against what he’s about…think of how many times he’s praised David Cook…no competition there.

    Working together to support David!
