David Archuleta On “Ten Best-Mannered List of 2008″
David Archuleta comes in at #7 on the “Ten Best-Mannered People of 2008,” as named by the National League of Junior Cotillions, an etiquette and social training program that involves thousands of young people in the United States.
Says Anne Colvin Winters, NLJC Executive Director, “The annual selections are based on the demonstration of honor, dignity and respect.” The major criteria for selections is that the individual has been an outstanding role model of good manners and exemplary behavior during the current year.
The 2008 list includes:
1. Michael Phelps – for being a positive example for young athletes.
2. The Jonas Brothers – for their strong commitment to personal values.
3. Carrie Underwood – for the courtesy she shows to her fans.
4. Eli Manning – for displaying good sportsmanship on and off the field.
5. Will Smith – for setting high standards of excellence as an actor.
6. Paula Dean – because of her charming and friendly manner.
7. David Archuleta – for his example of humility and politeness.
8. Meredith Vieira – for the warmth and kindness she extends to “Today Show” guests.
9. Phil Mickelson – for exhibiting grace in defeat and graciousness in victory.
10. Josh Groban – for inspiring young people with his music and his manners.
Cotillion students and directors nationwide nominate individuals for the “Ten Best Mannered People” award.
Congratulations David!!!

Thanks for posting this! What awesome news, yet to be honest, I think us David fans kinda already knew he was worthy of being on this list!
David truly is a young man of character…and humility and politeness are certainly one of his strongest traits. I believe it is humility that has allowed him to grow and mature, and his humility that reveals the quality of his soul. We sure need more David Archuletas in the world.
You guys at AFS are just awesome! I appreciate that you write about David and his fans rather than yourself. Speaks to the kind of character you have.
Take Care,
Gallie

I agree with Gallie, your site speaks to your character, and I have to say, it’s exemplary. You guys are doing an excellent job, keep it coming!
While I am celebrating that David made this list, of course, I like all David fans would probably say he should be #1 on it.
But, we will forgive the cotillion students and directors this time, and expect them to correct it next year, haha. Seriously though, this says so much that it can’t be overlooked. David’s character is being witnessed by everyone he comes into contact with, and it is now being appreciated rather than ridiculed. Because as David has been out there opening himself up to interviewers, his fans, and people in general, he has remained true to his character. He never is anything but who he has always been and seemed to be. People are recognizing that he is for real, as the dj so astutely observed.

This is just wonderful – while David is being recognized and appreciated for his incredible music talent he is now gaining well deserved attention for his wonderful demeanor and politeness. Do I think David should be at the top of the list? — you betcha! What would David say about this — well, we know that he would just go on and on about the other people on the list and people that he thinks should have been on the list, and nary a word about himself. You just have to respect that young man.
Sure wish I would have enrolled my son in the Junior Cotillion program at his school afterall.

I agree with ArchiFanDoc, David should be at the top of the list. He proves it every day. He LIVES the life of someone who serves others and does it with a sincere heart. I was so impressed with David the way he received the second place position at AI. Wow! what grace he has. I also agree with Gallie, about your site here at AFS. I’m glad to come here daily and read about David and his fans. You are awesome!!

David showed what a real child of God behaves. He is forever graceful and for me, he is the American Idol. His character is infectious. I hope the music industry and the media will not pollute his character but I hope it’s the other way around, that he can influence the industry with being himself.

A real honor for our David to be on this list. Let’s see former members…Pope John Paul II…Tom Hanks….yes this is a group he belongs in. Congratulations to the Jonas Brothers too. You know David is number 1 for me all the way…but it is wonderful that these young men are also good role models. The future looks so bright I think I need shades!
