David and Lupe Encounter Pesky “Mamarazzi” in NYC

Thank goodness for New York taxis! David Archuleta and his mom, Lupe, were trying to enjoy some quality time when they ran into an overly persistent, amateur paparazzi, make that, mamarazzi while walking in NYC. David and Lupe lightheartedly tried to avoid the camera eye, but the insistent videographer just wasn’t “getting the picture.”

  2. David saw what was happening right off the bat, witness how he grabs Lupe’s arm and tells her “lets go”. His first thought was to protect his mom so I’d say he handled it like a man.

  4. Must have been kinda freaky to be followed like that. I like how David was hanging on to his Mom’s arm and found a cab to getaway. Warms my heart to see David and Lupe spending time together.

  7. He’s like irritated but WE all know David. It’s too sweet of him to protect his mom. Actually, my initial reaction was “DANG IT! Leave them alone! Get a life!”. I was furious but okay…it’s the price of fame though I AM STILL HURT. I have to go run and shed some tears again. I hate it though I understand. Hmp…figure out how I do that.

  9. Hi Annie,

    My intention wasn’t to promote the guy’s video, it was to show how well David and his mom handled the situation. I thought it was a good example of David’s character because he remained polite, cool-headed, and protective of his mom. :)

  12. I loved seeing David and his mother together…even though the photographer was annoying….it showed them just trying to have a normal evening out together…and that is so sweet.

  13. We just stumbled upon this and have to say, in the future if you really do care about David Archuleta please do not post videos such as this. It only encourages others to try the same rude, stalkerish behavior! This video left us feeling very badly for David & Lupe. This guy did not even come across as a nice fan, he was obnoxious. David was out with his mom and it was obvious to this paparazzi even though David & Lupe were not rude, they were not enjoying being followed & videotaped. David deserves to have some normalcy in his life and if people care about him they will respect that!!

  14. David left “normalcy” on the American Idol stage and I’m sure he and his family were well aware that would happen. He’s now a public figure/celebrity, and scenarios like this are only going to increase. That’s part of the fame “package.” It would be nice if David could go out in public once in awhile without being approached by fans but that’s not so realistic anymore. He handled the situation like a pro and that was the point of posting this video.

  16. I’m sorry you feel that way. I explained very clearly why I decided to post the video. I didn’t defend the cameraman’s behavior, I explained it. The guy runs a blog about celebrities. David is a celebrity. Lupe’s relative, M.E., commented above saying that David and Lupe were “okay with the paparazzi,” and Lupe’s family actually likes the video because they got to see David and Lupe together. If the family is okay with it then I’m okay with it. If David wants me to take it down, he has my phone number. :)
